Shirt -. An integral and important element of the Macedonian male and female folk costumes. It was made from home-made white canvas. According to the composition of the material, several types of shirts are encountered: hook (or fractional shirt) completely made of hemp, melk with a cotton basis, and a hemp, and a bather shirt with a base and a cotton jacket. The female shirt was most often tailored from five canvases: ed-but Abdoot, one root and three rebinders. Around the neck slipped tight collar (Collir). The shirt’s sleeves are composed of two parts: from one canvas (Ruby), the majority, and – right piece (Latica) that was bidding under the upper part of the sleeve. The bridal shirts are characterized by rich leave decoration, with a multitude of symbolic motifs that have an emphasized ritual-magical function. The leave decoration was usually made with red, black and yellow strings. Many beliefs associated with the act of marriage and bridal shirt have been reserved. Shirts designed for the older female population were with simpler vest decoration, in darker, monochrome colors. J. R.-P.
